Theories of International Relations. Sixth edition
International Relations has had a strong theoretical orientation throughout its century-long aca-demic study. A good understanding of the theoretical terrain, appreciating the strengths and weak-nesses, the limitations and possibilities of a broad range of theories is imperative for all scholars and students in the discipline. It is also crucial to understand the changed intellectual and international contexts in which scholars have theorized across more than a century of study. This has been the chief purpose of Theories of International Relations over its lifetime, and it remains the purpose of this sixth edition.

Writing for Academic Journals. Third edition
This book is based on the assumption that the writing skills you learned in school – which is when most people seem to learn most about writing – do not equip you for your entire career. This means that we can develop our writing skills throughout our careers, and that writing development – or whatever you want to call it – is not remedial; far from it.

Academic Writing and Publishing: A Practical Handbook
Academic Writing and Publishing will show academics (mainly in the social sciences) how to write and publish research articles. Its aim is to supply examples and brief discussions of recent work in all aspects of the area in short, sharp chapters. It should serve as a handbook for postgraduates and lecturers new to publishing. The book is written in a readable and lively personal style. The advice given is direct and based on up-to-date research that goes beyond that given in current textbooks. For example, the chapter on titles lists different kinds of titles and their purposes not discussed in other texts. The chapter on abstracts instructs the reader on writing structured abstracts from the start.

The Scientist's Guide to Writing provides practical advice to help scientists become more effective writers so that their ideas have the greatest possible impact. Drawing on his own experience as a scientist, graduate adviser, and editor, Stephen Heard emphasizes that the goal of all scientific writing should be absolute clarity; that good writing takes deliberate practice; and that what many scientists need are not long lists of prescriptive rules but rather direct engagement with their behaviors and attitudes when they write. He combines advice on such topics as how to generate and maintain writing momentum with practical tips on structuring a scientific paper, revising a first draft, handling citations, responding to peer reviews, managing coauthorships, and more.
