Учебное пособие предлагает опыт построения теории текста с коммуникативных позиций. Текст последовательно рассматривается в его отношении к участникам коммуникации, как знак, в отношении к миру действительности, миру текстов. На фоне истории развития учения о тексте демонстрируются принципы построения теории текста, ее операциональная ориентированость на интерпретативную деятельность слушающего (читающего). Изложенное в пособии понимание текста позволяет приблизиться к постижению его «жизни». Книга снабжена вопросами и заданиями для самостоятельной работы, библиографическим списком. Во втором издании (1-е – 2003 г.) текст книги существенно переработан и дополнен новыми материалами.
