Beyond Hummus and Falafel Social and Political Aspects of Palestinian Food in Israel
A couple of months after my book came out in Israel, I received a phone call from a Palestinian journalist who works for a major local television station. “We need to talk,” he said in a tone I could not interpret with certainty. Having done many interviews as part of my research, I tried to get a sense of what the conversation was going to be about. He was, after all, the fi rst and only Palestinian journalist who had expressed interest in my book.

Aqueous Lubrication Natural and Biomimetic Approaches
This book is about aqueous lubrication in nature, and man’s attempts to understand it and imitate it. It deals with natural lubrication mechanisms as found in articular joints (Crockett, Chap. 1) and in mucous membranes (Lee, Chap. 2). It also describes human efforts to interface with natural lubrication systems in the context of food (Stokes, Chap. 3) and personal-care products (Luengo et al., Chap. 4). Finally, it covers the current state of our understanding of the principles of aqueous lubrication with gels (Liu and Gong, Chap. 5) and with polymer brushes (Giasson and Spencer, Chap. 6), as well as efforts to apply aqueous lubrication to materials (Martin and De Barros-Bouchet, Chap. 7, and Kalin, Chap. 8).
